Responsible business conduct in (post-)conflict areas; what is the role of EU Member States?

Based on UNGPs Principles 7 and 8, the European Commission and EU Member States should help ensure the coherence and effectiveness of European efforts to prevent corporate involvement in human rights abuses in weak governance zones.

This session discussed the role of Member States and the EU under the UNGPs, in engaging with business enterprises on the risks and opportunities for responsible business activity in (post-)conflict situations.

Bringing together a variety of perspectives from the EU, civil society and private sector, this session aimed to share experiences and explore opportunities for promoting due diligence in conflict-affected areas, and defined a number of concrete actions that may enhance the further implementation of the UNGPs.
