Opening Session: The Need for an EU Business and Human Rights Roadmap

Five years ago the UN Human Rights Council endorsed the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). The opening plenary session will focus on the progress made by the EU and its Member in implementing the UNGPs, the remaining challenges and the need to strengthen the implementation process.

The session will start with an official welcome from the Kingdom of the Netherlands by Marten van den Berg – Director General Foreign Economic Relations – followed by the screening of a short film about the consequences of business related human rights abuses. A panel will then address key business and human rights issues and engage meeting participants in further discussions.
